I am in my 16th year of recruiting now, and have seen certain patterns emerge over the years, and one the most constant is that September tends to be a busy month. It reminds me of the 'back to school' effect. Summer and vacation time is over, and there seems to be renewed energy on both sides. Companies are ready to hire and people are more focused on their search. That holds true even this year in a softer job market than we are used to. Last week, typically a slow one as it's the lull before the long holiday weekend with kids getting back to school, was unusually busy for us.
What are we seeing? A sense that the worst may be behind us. Companies that were holding off are now dipping their toes in the hiring water again. The stock market is up considerably, closing well over 9,000 last week.
So, if you've been waiting for the right time to start a search, it's here. Dust off your resume, polish and update it and venture forth, the water's fine.
